I am happily working my way through a lot of the berry combinations (yet again, so many recipes so little time!) Ones tried include, Triple Berry, Peach Raspberry, Strawberry Lavender and Strawberry Margarita jams. Exactly how the things labeled and shipped the same day packed were kept from reaching the customer as bloats was “unclear”… Well the other guy and I had a grand old time, taking gallons off the pallet, poking a hole with the hammer spike, having a geyser of cooked peaches and sugar water shoot out the hole into the air (mostly onto the concrete to be washed away later via hosing…some ‘directed’ at each other “for effect” ;-) Well, end of the day, we were soaked head to toe in peaches, sugar water, and botulinum… I took my shoes and shirt off before driving home… I think my butt was mostly not soaked… maybe… but the vinyl of the old VW didn’t care anyway.

So, unless you like playing Russian roulette with your food and family, it's best avoided. Each famly also needed raisins, currants, suet, flour, eggs, cranberries, apples, and, where there were children, food for 'intermeal eatings.' Small beer was the beverage, and molasses for brewing and flavoring was needed. You will be spending a bit more time in this part of your home so why not make it a fun experience every time. I'm a canning rookie compared to many, but I haven't had a batch fail yet.

Over the weekend I canned some pickled beets and gave the reusable lids and rings a try. Taste the sauce and adjust for seasonings. Melt 40g of the butter in a large non-stick lidded frying pan and brown the chops two at a time, being careful not to burn the walnuts. Canning jar manufacturers also don't endorse baking in their canning jars. Ingredients include granulated sugar, brown sugar, white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, bourbon, water, cinnamon sticks, fresh ginger root, red pepper flakes, yellow mustard seeds and cloves.

The first guide, published in 1909, was called The Correct Method for Preserving Fruit, and was written by Miss Elizabeth Ball. Then I reduce heat and allow them to simmer for about 20 minutes. Choose only safe, tested recipes from research-based resources such as the NCHFP, USDA or the land-grant university-based Cooperative Extension System. Remove processed jars from the canner and leave to cool for 12 to 24 hours.
