On the 9th of June, 1882, the road was again sold and purchased by the parties who had previously organized the C., A. & C. The expansion of the railroad into the Pewabic, as well as the balance of the Quincy holdings, created a maze of switches and sidings that resulted in also doubling the length of overall trackage to 14+ miles. The line would follow his toll road up to Eureka, Animas Forks, and was anticipated to go to Lake City.

Shortly after it is acquired by the Pennsylvania, the last addition to the CL&N system. 1917 - The Lebanon Express wrecks after a local circus train leaves the turntable switch thrown. The child in anticipation of meeting a relative who was to arrive on the next train wandered away from his home unnoticed by his mother. He continued in his work until "down the road" a good distance when he consulted a physician who advised his immediate removal to his home.

The cupola is 25 feet in diameter, the vertical part of which has 32 openings, with blinds for ventilation, above a strong projecting cornice. Finding aid available on the Virginia Heritage database. Milnor Roberts, chief engineer for the Northern Pacific Railroad, observed in 1878 that farmers living near Colfax, Washington, could haul grain by wagon to steamboat landings on the Snake River, but “the transportation charges by the time it reaches Portland or Astoria will nearly equal its value, leaving a very small margin for the farmer.” Asking a farmer in that quandary “if he wants a railroad” was like asking any candidate for political office if he wanted to be elected. “Everybody—men, women, and children—want a railroad.” A “bright intelligent lady” assured Roberts that if the Northern Pacific would construct a line connecting eastern Washington farms with Puget Sound ports “it would pay more than two hundred percent profit every year.” In return for all the profit agrarians expected to earn following the long-awaited arrival of railroad tracks, farm and ranch families across the West must have anticipated that they would soon be able to peruse the illustrated catalogs issued by merchandisers like Sears, Roebuck and Company in distant Chicago and order the latest fashions in dresses and suits, bigger and more efficient farm implements, or whatever else tickled their fancy, and have these prized purchases delivered in a timely manner to the nearest railroad station.

This work was completed in the very crisis of the financial embarrassments of that time, and on April 5th of that year all work was suspended on the line east of Hicksville, and also on the Williamsburg branch. Within three years, 80 percent of the Central Pacific workforce was made up of Chinese workers, and they proved to be essential to the task of laying the line through the Sierra Nevadas. This recommends limited branch line abandonment on the prairies. 1977, May 28 - The Ontario Northland Railway begins to operate two of four used TEE (Trans-Europ Express) train sets purchased from the Swiss and Dutch Railways.
