Avoiding Two Mistakes of Scale-and-Complexity: As explained in Sections 1A-1C, we should not insist that concepts from our large-scale everyday experience are adequate for understanding the small-scale quantum realm. In general, the beam orientation (and the lines of constructive interference) are not perpendicular to the wave fronts. The bulk of the course will be devoted to developing quantum mechanics in a quasi-historical way. It is clear that we can replace $x^2$ by any reasonable linear operator, and we would get the same structure. That is, the smaller the extent in space, the larger the extent in k, and hence in λ = 2π/k. Your frame of reference may refer to a coordinate system used to measure properties of objects, such as position and orientation. With the help of refraction of light properties of water waves will be explained.
